Peanut Butter Banana Hemp Smoothie

Here is the recipe for my favourite smoothie.  It is disturbingly delicious and nutritious.

The Morning Watch

Lagu's text-message monitoring system proved handy this morning at 4 AM.  I received a text message that our anchor distance had increased to a new maximum of 163 feet and that the wind had picked up to 22 knots.  I put on my warmest clothing and headed up to the flybridge to evaluate the situation.

Lagu's Haul Out And Some Winter Upgrades

In preparation for the winter, Lagu underwent some further upgrades (just can't get enough!) and then was hauled out at Lions Gate Marina in Vancouver... barely!  The "sea lift" they have is unbelievably cool and apparently anyone that knows how to use an iPhone could drive it, though I don't think I'll give it a go.  When they pointed to where I was supposed to position Lagu to I was like "euh, are you sure?"  Lagu had about 2 ft on either side of the ramp (it seemed like about 2 cm), which was a little nerve wracking to watch from the flybridge.  But, wow, these guys were professional and had Lagu on the hard in no time.

Exploring Discovery Island Lighthouse

We parked The Rat on the other side of Discovery Island where the old Keepers' dock and boathouse were barely standing and a path led us straight to the abandoned lighthouse.

Rule #10: Don't Touch the Dock Pilings

Further to last week’s run-in with the Coast Guard, we learned a few more important lessons last night in Ganges, which ended in an action-packed rescue of Lagu after the winds unexpectedly picked up to 30 knots.

False Creek Foul

Normally, we anchor off of Kitsilano Beach when staying in Vancouver, but we decided to try out False Creek instead.  We triple checked the clearance on the Granville Street Bridge before heading under dead slow.  Krisalyn kept asking, "Why are we going under at high tide?"  It didn't help that a lady in a boat next to us was saying, "They're too big to fit!"  We found a nice spot to anchor (so we thought) and enjoyed the spectacular view of the city.  What an incredible place!!  It was surprisingly tranquil being nestled in the heart of Vancouver.

Zigzagging to Shell Beach

Today was the first time sailing with just two of us, oh, and our third-crew-member, the autopilot (we should probably name him, like everything else on our boat).  We left Nanaimo Harbour at 7AM and arrived in Montague at sunset.  It was a relaxing sail with a fairly light breeze until we came through Porlier Pass, and 20 knot winds made for some exciting sailing down the channel, including a new speed record of nearly 9 knots.

Four Seamen Sailing to Comox

We set sail for Comox to visit Krisalyn's family.  On board we had willing and able seamen: Kk and Bryan.  We were a cockpit full of seamen, ready to beat it to the wind.  OK, we may have gotten carried away with the nautical jokes.
