Lagu's Very Very First Sail

With the majority of Lagu's upgrades complete, it was time to fire up the engines and head out for our first test sailing.  The winds were too light to complete the rig tightening, but we played with the Furuno gear, ran the generator, put the genoa on the furler, and got a brief taste of what we had ahead of us.  I was instantly filled with the same feelings I've had every time I've headed out on a sailing trip; a mix of excitement, serenity, and pleasure -- I guess that's why they call it a "pleasure craft".  We are nearly ready for our first trip: balls to the wall, taking on the sea and life's challenges.  I'm filled with a renewed vigor for life.

Chaos Quickly Turns to Awesomeness Onboard

This is my first blog post whilst onboard Lagu! The team here on Granville Island has been working "full-pull" to get Lagu's new equipment installed.  It's been unbelievably exciting watching it all come together.  The following are some snapshots of the chaos quickly turning to awesomeness.  The sun in shining and we have the stereo cranked.  What could be better?

The Mothership – Hidden in the Cowichan Valley

We checked the GPS coordinates of the STAR HIDRA incessantly as she worked her way north towards Vancouver.  This morning we checked the location, and she was sitting at a dock a short drive up island.  We hit the road and set off to find Lagu once again and let him know he's almost done his journey atop the mothership.

Lagu Basks in the Mexican Sunshine

The mothership has been held up in Mexico for the last few weeks due to a “labor dispute”.  The anticipated delivery in Vancouver is now April 8. The upside is that Lagu gets to bask in the sunshine for an extra month, and we get more time to continue getting ready.  It’s amazing to think that we have been working towards this impending goal for almost a year and a half now.

Preparing to Commission our Lagoon 450

We have been working with our dealer and Andy at Bluewater Rigging to plan out the major system upgrades for Lagu when he arrives in Vancouver next month.  Krisalyn and I have spent hours researching and creating Visio diagrams to make sense of it all!

The Mothership Has Arrived!

The bad-ass-looking mothership, STAR HIDRA, has arrived to bring Lagu home to Canada. We will be checking the GPS coordinates every 30 seconds as Lagu travels on to the Panama Canal.

Counting Down the Days...

Lagu will soon be loaded on a freighter en route from Holland to Vancouver, BC!  Below is the coundown clock for his expected arrival! We can almost smell the salt air now...

Lagu has arrived!

Lagu is a state-of-the-art Lagoon 450 catamaran. I live aboard spending my days sailing the seas, exploring nature, and dancing to sweet beats. Lagu is self-sufficient, off the grid, and eco-friendly as much as possible. Of course, I also work remotely to support my lifestyle. Come along, let's have a laugh and enjoy the world together!
